Danilo Stagni has made a wonderful musical offering: a testimony of his love and passion for the music of the great Romantic composer Robert Schumann. The result is a splendid recording, a labour of love, a result of his in-depth exploration of this wonderful repertoire. Schumann, in turn, believed in the unique beauty and magic of the horn, an instrument he called “The Soul of the Orchestra.” Together they created magic!
All the parts on the disc are played immaculately by Danilo himself and meticulously recorded. His artistry reveals his immense ability to express both tenderness and excitement, nobility and raw power of an instrument once associated only with hunting and fanfare signals. His tremendous virtuosity enables him to use a whole palette of colours, characters, voices. It allows him to interpret not only the always challenging horn parts with ease, but also to sing and speak like a singer, take on the complex score of a pianist, and sound like an entire orchestra.
After decades of performing at La Scala as their “Primissimo corno,” Danilo has shared with us his immense experience and knowledge of the art of bel canto, which he has so fully absorbed. There is such warmth to his soulful playing that comes from within, “mit innigem Ausdruck”, as Schumann himself writes at the beginning of his Adagio and Allegro, Op. 70.

Danilo Stagni ha realizzato una meravigliosa offerta musicale: una testimonianza del suo amore e della sua passione per la musica del grande compositore romantico Robert Schumann. Il risultato è una splendida registrazione, frutto di un lavoro appassionato e di un’approfondita esplorazione di questo meraviglioso repertorio. Schumann, a sua volta, credeva nella bellezza e nella magia uniche del corno, uno strumento che definiva “l’anima dell’orchestra”. Insieme hanno creato qualcosa di magico! Tutte le parti del disco sono suonate in modo impeccabile dallo stesso Danilo e registrate meticolosamente. La sua abilità artistica rivela la sua immensa capacità di esprimere sia la tenerezza che l’eccitazione, la nobiltà e la potenza grezza di uno strumento un tempo associato solo alla caccia e ai segnali di fanfara. Il suo straordinario virtuosismo gli permette di utilizzare un’intera tavolozza di colori, caratteri, voci. Gli consente non solo di interpretare con facilità le parti per corno, sempre impegnative, ma anche di cantare e parlare come un cantante, di affrontare la complessa partitura di un pianista, di suonare come un’intera orchestra.
